John Raposo Cordeiro III, 70, of Fairview, passed away Thursday, May 6, 2021.
A native of Worcester, MA, he was a son of Dora Rose Cordeiro and the late John R. Cordeiro Jr.
In addition to his mother, John is survived by his wife of 25 years, Nancy Huebner Cordeiro; daughter Marlena Cordeiro Purdy and her husband, Steven; daughter Tina Louise Roberts-Ashby and her husband, Brandon; son John Matthew Roberts; sister Doreen Rose Mooney; nine grandchildren, Demi Keefe and her husband, Cameron; Tatum Brunette and her husband, Christopher; Steven Purdy Jr., John Anthony Purdy, Ian Matthew Roberts, Adalaide Ashby, Abelina Ashby, Arles Ashby and Ailyd Ashby; three great-grandchildren, Olivia Brunette, Madilyn Brunette and Liam Keefe, as well as niece and nephews, Brittany Mooney Gilmore, Jimmy Mooney, Johnny Mooney and Tommy Mooney.
John, known as “Papa John” to family and friends, was an avid animal lover, especially dogs, enjoyed listening to and playing jazz music, and spending time buying and selling “stuff” at Smiley’s Flea Market. Above all, Papa John loved spending time with his family.
Family and friends will gather to celebrate his life from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM on Saturday, May 22, 2021 at Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian.
In lieu of flowers, his family asks that memorial donations be made to Charlies Angels Animal Rescue, 5526 Hendersonville Road, Fletcher, NC 28732.

Johnny was the type of man men wanted to be like , he love to laugh with you as much as he cried with you , always talked about his daughter and his grandchildren. He had principals and was ok with yours. If you were his friend you were like family to Johnny, you go through life and your lucky to find a friend as good as Johnny, I’m gone miss you my friend I love you man. Rest In Peace good buddy❤️
