Sonia Owen

Sonia Rice Owen, 80, passed away Sunday, March 12, 2023.

Mrs. Owen was born in Asheville to the late Melvin and Winnie Mae Roberts Rice. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy Dale Owen; a brother, Coy Rice; a sister, Daphne Waddell and a nephew, Toby Owen.

Sonia was a member of Biltmore Church. She retired from Wachovia Bank after 42 years of service. She loved her family dearly and her grandsons were her world.

She is survived by her daughter, Terri Norton and her “favorite son-in-law”, Steve; two grandsons, Christian and Zechariah; a brother-in-law, Rex Owen; a sister-in-law, Mary Rice; a niece, Carla West and her family and nephews, Keith Waddell and his family, Steve Waddell and his family, Kevin Rice and Darren Owen.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, March 19, 2023 at 2:00 pm at Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian with Pastor Kelvin Moseley officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home.
