Jeff Horton Poe, Sr., 66, passed away on Friday, April 25, 2025.
A native of Durham, NC, Jeff was a son of the late James Albert and Jacquelyne Clark Poe. He was also preceded in death by his brother, James Albert Poe Jr.
Jeff is survived by his partner, Janet Webber; sons, Jeffrey H. Poe, Jr. (Angela Landess Poe), and Elliot M. Poe (Shelby Lynn Poe); granddaughters, Olivia, Eileen, and Corinne; and siblings, Clark (Ellen), Jennifer, and Tim (Leslie) Poe.
Jeff lived in Candler and was a master builder whose craftsmanship left a lasting mark on every home and business he touched. As a general contractor, he dedicated his career to both new construction and remodels, blending skill, vision, and pride into every project.
Outside of building, he found joy in spending time with his sons, family and friends, riding his bikes and motorcycle, listening to Bob Dylan, cheering on Tar Heels basketball, and enjoying life “out amongst em” in town. He was a humble man with a quiet strength who always appreciated a good adventure.
His family will receive friends for a brief service at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Ave. at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 3. A Celebration of Life will be held following the service at 3:30 p.m. at Wedge Brewing Company at 37 Paynes Way, Asheville, NC 28801.

Our day of sightseeing and beer under the Golden Gate Bridge after you rode your motorcycle across country will always stick in my memory.
You were a courageous humble guy with a quick wit. Folks will be lonesome since you’re gone.
I have such fond memories of the Poe family, growing up in Durham. My path crossed with Jeff years later in Asheville, seeing him at one of his home construction sites near where I was living with my young family!! What a coincidence that each of our paths had brought us to live in the Asheville area!!
My heartfelt condolences and prayers go out to his family!
