Betty Sue Hollingsworth Harris passed away, she was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, who crossed over to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, at the age of 87. Betty was born on April 10, 1938, in Haywood County, North Carolina, to Walter and Grace Farmer Hollingsworth.

A woman of boundless love, compassion, and dedication, Betty devoted much of her life to nurturing others. She worked as a substitute teacher at Emma Elementary, and later as an assistant teacher at Woodfin and Haw Creek Elementary schools. Her deep care for children extended beyond the classroom as she served in the daycare at West Asheville Baptist Church and Calvary Baptist Church. In every role she undertook, Betty’s warmth and kindness left an indelible mark on all who were fortunate enough to know her.

Betty’s legacy lives on through her children, Vicki Oxner (Butch), Terri Weeks (Bill), Christina Harris, and David Harris (Valleri). She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were the joy of her life. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Betty’s love for her family was immeasurable and unconditional, and she took immense pride in being a grandmother and great-grandmother. Her love knew no bounds, extending even to her beloved cat, Charlotte, and the deer she loved to feed in her yard.

Betty was preceded in death by her siblings Carmel, James, Mark, Hazel Hollingsworth, and Edna Davis, as well as half-siblings William Hollingsworth, Herman Hollingsworth, and Eva May Nalley. Though their physical presence is no longer with us, their spirits live on in Betty’s heart, and she is now reunited with them in the eternal embrace of God.

A devoted member of West Asheville Baptist Church, Betty’s faith was central to her life. Her unwavering belief in Christ, coupled with her deep love for others, was the foundation of her character, and she was an example of grace and humility to all who knew her.

A graveside service will be held to honor Betty’s life and legacy at Green Hills Cemetery on Monday, June 30, 2025, at 2:00 PM. The service will be officiated by Pastor Tony Hooper and Pastor Stan Welch. Groce Funeral Home – Patton Ave. is assisting the family.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the West Asheville Baptist Church building fund, 926 Haywood Road Asheville, NC and Four Season Hospice, 571 South Allen Road, Flat Rock, NC.
