Asheville Butterfly TrailAsheville- Billy “Bill” Edwin Godfrey, 82, of Asheville, died Wednesday, July 16, 2025 surrounded by his loving family.
A native of Buncombe County, he was a son of the late Dewey and Althea Carr Godfrey.
A loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Bill was a diehard car enthusiast that attended many car shows and was a man who loved the Lord.
Bill is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Ruby Godfrey; a daughter, Sharon Downs (Robert) of Candler; three sons, Eddie Godfrey (Alecia) of Arden, Danny Godfrey of Arden and Brandon Burrell (Caroline) of Arden; five grandchildren, Ava, Cora, Christopher, Heather and Noah; four great-grandchildren, Sean, Makyla, Cayden and Tessa as well as several nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Service will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, July 20, 2025 at Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 2:00-3:00 PM. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.

I am so sad to hear of Bill’s
Passing. He is my cousin & we didn’t see each other as much as we should but I knew he loved the the Lord & his family. I pray for his family that God will give them g race & peace in the coming days.
