Pamela “Pamee” Cecile Mitchell, 66, of Asheville, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on August 1, 2025.
Born on February 24, 1959, at Mission Hospital/St. Joseph in Asheville, Pamee was the beloved daughter of Donella McClendon and Cecil David Mitchell. She graduated from A.C. Reynolds High School in 1977 and went on to earn her degree from Mars Hill University, graduating with the Class of 1982.
Pamee had a fulfilling 13-year career as a flight attendant with Southwest Airlines, where she made lifelong friendships and touched countless lives with her warmth and joyful spirit.
Adventurous at heart, Pamee loved skiing and spending time outdoors with friends. She enjoyed trips to Myrtle Beach with family and friends, creating treasured memories by the ocean. She found joy and peace in her cabin at Wolf Laurel and on the slopes she cherished so deeply. Pamee also loved biking and hiking through the mountains, and could often be found relaxing with a crossword puzzle in hand — a quiet pastime that balanced her vibrant, active spirit. Pamee had an amazing sense of humor, full of pure silliness and a contagious love for life that made every moment with her unforgettable.
Although she never had children of her own, Pamee was a loving and devoted mother figure to her many nieces and nephews. Her selflessness, kind heart, and unwavering concern for others were evident to all who knew her.
She is survived by her sisters Laura Harbison and Donna Morrow (Tom); her nieces and nephews Jessica Long (Thomas), Alex Cochran (Tanner), Mitchell Harbison (Kaley), Cecil “Buddy” Owens (Sara), Annie Morrow, Preston Morrow, and her beloved dog, Hootie.
Pamee was preceded in death by her parents, Donella and Cecil Mitchell, and her brother, David Mitchell.
In keeping with her generous spirit, Pamee wished for donations to be made to the American Lung Association in her memory. Her family would also like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the exceptional lung transplant team at the University of Virginia for the dedicated care, compassion, and support they provided throughout her journey. Her memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved her, and she will be deeply missed.
A celebration of Pamee’s life will be held on Saturday, August 16, at Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian, located at 72 Shoals Road, Arden, NC. Family and friends are invited to gather for visitation from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM, with a memorial service to follow at 1:00 PM.
