It is with deep love and gratitude for her life that we announce the passing of Karen Lee Hughes, who went home to be with her Lord and Savior on July 31, 2025.

Karen’s life was defined by her steadfast faith in Jesus and her unwavering kindness toward everyone she met. She had a rare gift for making others feel seen and loved- whether through a gentle word, a warm embrace, or the simple ministry of listening with her whole heart.

Her days were spent serving others with quiet grace, helping without hesitation, encouraging without judgement, and offering compassion without limit. To know Karen was to know the warmth of true friendship, the comfort of genuine care, and the joy of a faith- filled life.

Karen was preceded in death by her first husband, Charles (Charlie) James Browne Jr. as well as her second husband, Joseph William Hughes Jr. Karen was a devoted mother to Kathleen (Stephen) Browne Perry, Kelly (Craig) Browne Keith, Joseph (Kristi) Hughes, Jason Hughes, Adam (Kristi) Hughes. She was Nana to 18 beloved Grandchildren, each of whom she cherished and was so proud of.

Her legacy is one of kindness, faith and service- a reflection of the love of Christ she carried in her heart. Though she will be missed beyond measure, we rejoice in knowing she is now at rest in the presence of the Lord she so dearly loved.

In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, or Boys Town Florida (Boystown.org/Florida) in Karen’s memory.

Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian is assisting the family.
