Anne Rew Bowers Zorn, 94, passed away on September 18, 2025 in Arden, North Carolina.

Anne was born and raised in Richmond, Virginia, and loved to climb trees as a child while she longed for a pony. As a young person, she was a skilled artist in drawing and painting, and had a lilting whistle, a lovely singing voice and a charming sense of humor her entire life.

She became a Navy wife when she married her husband, and bravely evacuated Cuba with three small children during the Cuban Missile Crisis. The family later returned stateside with their last child on the way. Anne liked to say that Navy wives returned home from Cuba with an alligator bag or a baby. She said she didn’t like the bags.

When they retired from the military, Anne moved to the Irwinville area in South Georgia to be a homemaker while her husband operated a small farm. She finally got her pony, a white Shetland she named Thunderbolt as well as a couple of horses for riding. She cared for and loved all the farm animals, big and small.

Anne graduated from Abraham Baldwin College in Tifton, Georgia, earning her degree to become a registered nurse. Her nurturing spirit affected all she encountered as she worked in her community hospital’s emergency room and as a director of nursing in the local nursing home. When Anne and her husband decided to retire, they sold the farm and moved to Asheville, North Carolina.

Anne was preceded in death by her parents, Gamble and Gertrude Bowers; her sisters Jean McCammon and Frances Sisson Baldwin, and brother Robert Bowers.

Anne is survived by her husband of 68 years, Legette Zorn; her son Davy Zorn, her daughter Becky Purcell (Larry), her son Danny Zorn (MaryAnn), and her daughter Meg Zorn; her grandchildren Jacob Purcell, Carlin Purcell, Corrie Purcell, Kendall Zorn, Caitlin Zorn, Quinn Hull (Rachel), and Skylar Hull.

Anne was known for her beauty inside and out, and was beloved and cherished by all who knew her. A private memorial will be held at a later date.

Groce Funeral Home’s Lake Julian team is assisting the family.
