Cherie Jeanne Lemort-Atkins

Fairview – Cherie Jeanne Lemort-Atkins, 78, of Fairview, passed away Monday, December 1, 2025 at the Elizabeth House in Flat Rock.

She grew up in East Rutherford, NJ, and was a daughter of the late George and Della Bischoff Lemort.

Cherie loved cooking, sewing, her beloved four-legged rescue children, going to the longest yard sale and antiquing.

She is survived by her loving husband, Thomas “Tommy” Atkins; a sister, Arlene “Ali” D. LeMort of Fairview; Cherie’s bonus family, daughters Lisa West (George) of Asheville, Lori Bridges (Matt) of Fairview and Tammy Fincher of Asheville; son Kevin Atkins (Christine) of Fairview, as well as ten grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.

Her family would like to send a special thank you to Four Seasons Compassion for Life, the EMT’s of Fairview and Cherie’s special caregivers, Ginny, Sissy, Gina, Sheila and Justin. Also, a special thank you to the owners and staff of Hilltop Ice Cream in Fairview for the sweet joy and love they showed during Cherie’s final months.

A private family celebration of Cherie’s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider making a contribution in Cherie’s memory to either Asheville Humane Society (ashevillehumane.org) or to Four Seasons Compassion for Life. Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian is assisting the family.
