November 9, 1968 ~ December 3, 2025

Born in: Hendersonville, North Carolina
Resided in: Fletcher, North Carolina

Michael Shane Lemmons, age 57, of Fletcher, NC, went to his heavenly home with his family by his side after a valiant war with cancer on December 3, 2025. Born with a charismatic spirit and a gift of gab, Mike lived a life rooted in love, loyalty, and quiet strength. He faced every challenge with determination. His presence made the lives of those who knew him best brighter, and his absence will be felt deeply by all who were blessed to know him.

Mike was preceded in death by his father, Eric “Danny” Lemmons; stepfather, Jerry “Biscuit” Crook; mother-in-law, Gloria Peacock; nephew, Riley Torbett; and brother-in-law, Russ Schultz.

Mike is survived by his wife, Christy; son, Carter of Charlotte, NC; daughters, Megan of Atlanta, GA, Mackenzie Clark (Kramer) of Panama City, FL, and Madison Davis of Arden, NC; mother, Agnes Crook of Arden, NC; sisters, Kim Harwell (Kevin) of Little Elm, TX, and Patience Bryson of Fletcher, NC; brother, Jeff Lemmons (Delores) of Mills River, NC; stepmother, Sandra Lemmons of Arden, NC; father-in-law, Bill Peacock (Cynthia); and sisters-/brother-in-law, Stacey Schultz of St. Louis, MO, and Dana Torbett (Rex) of Marianna, FL. Mike shared a special relationship with his nieces and nephews: Lindsey Hill (Aaron), Danielle Gossett (Jared), Charlie Harwell (Jenna), Austin Torbett (Emily), and Caleb Torbett (Sierra). Also surviving “Pappy” are his grandchildren, Landon and Rylin Clark of Panama City, FL. He is loved by a magnitude of family and friends who will miss his charismatic personality and quick wit.

He graduated from West Henderson High in 1986. Working part-time as a college student led to an almost 35-year career with UPS. Mike met Christy on his Biltmore Park UPS route, thinking it would be just another routine stop. Instead, he left wondering who she was, surprised by how quickly a simple delivery managed to stay on his mind.

An avid Tar Heels fan who prided himself on being in the know on all things Carolina athletics, Mike was overjoyed when his daughter Megan was accepted into UNC–Chapel Hill, where she graduated with a degree in Marketing. Though equally proud of his son Carter and his degree in Public Relations, Mike enjoyed throwing jabs, as said degree came from NC State University.

Mike enjoyed sports of any kind. You could almost set your weekend clock by his tee time with “The Big Boys” at Chestnut Mountain, formerly High Vista. Barely into retirement, Mike also enjoyed additional rounds of golf with “The Idle Rich” men’s group. Not one to sit still in his retirement (or ever, for that matter), Mike returned to his childhood hobby of fishing, occasionally dragging Christy along.

Always ready with a story of some kind—some more appropriate than others—Mike will be celebrated in the same fashion. A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, December 14, at 3 p.m. at The Laurel Room at High Vista, 88 Country Club Road, Mills River, NC 28759. The family will be receiving guests prior to the service from 2:00 p.m. to 2:45 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Riley Torbett Preschool, https://pjhope.org/give in Nicaragua, Central America, Project H.O.P.E., 1419 S. Enterprise, Springfield, MO 65804. You may also contribute to a dedicated memorial for Mike, payable to Chestnut Mountain Golf Club (88 Country Club Road, Mills River, NC 28759, Attn: Paul Lynch).

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. We had the privilege of being friends and neighbors with Mike. He is sorely missed. The world was a better place with Mike in it.

  2. My heart goes out to Mikes family. I have had the pleasure ( and sometimes aggravation- meant in jest) of knowing Mike since his start at UPS. He is and will always be held in the highest regard by all that knew him , worked with him , and most importantly, laughed with him. He had ,without a doubt , the quickest wit of all. Never one to make you wonder, forthright in his actions and words… a true gentleman, co-worker and friend. May he rest in peace and his family and friends know we are better for having shared a life with him.

  3. Christy and Family, I am so sorry for your loss. I always enjoyed being around Mike. He was a lot of fun and kept us laughing. Peace be with you. Ken Crook

  4. Our time we spent with Mike was always memorable and fun. We loved playing golf, vacationing, and just hanging with him and our children. . Mike will be missed.

  5. I feel so bad for Mike’s family. I worked with Mike for many years. He was such a great guy with a great personality. This is definitely a situation when you have to ask why. He was taken from not only from his family but from all that knew him far too soon. Rest in peace. Prayers for family. Kenny Reed

  6. Jeff and family,
I am so sorry to read of Mike’s passing. I remember him as a UPS driver making deliveries to IMOCO. He was such a fine young man. Your family has lost so many members in recent months. Please know that you and your family will be in my thoughts and prayers! With my deepest sympathy! Alton

  7. I am so sorry to hear about Mike’s passing . I am Brian Griffin mother. I remember Mike has a young boy how sweet and he was always happy and pleasant and very handsome. May God be with family during this difficult time.

  8. When I was younger my family lived across the street from Agnes and Danny. We all became fast friends with all the kids. So sorry to hear of Mikes passing. Thinking of all the family during this difficult time.

  9. Christy and family,
My sympathy is with each one of you over Mike’s passing. I worked with Mike at UPS, and want to say he was one of the best friends and co-workers I’ve ever been associated with! He will be greatly missed by all that knew him! My heart is broken learning of his passing, he was one of the greatest individuals I’ve met in my lifetime! I grieve with each of you! I will always carry his friendship and his memory with me forever! Rest In Peace Mike

  10. I knew from the moment I met Mike that I not only had the best neighbor, but a friend for life. Mike was proactive of not only me but of my family. Mike and his family have made me a better person and I am forever grateful for knowing him.

  11. Christy,
I am very sorry to hear about Mike passing. He was an inspiration in the way that he faced his illness with courage and determination. Rest in peace my friend and prayers to you and the family.

  12. My thoughts and prayers go out to Michael’s family. He was a friend of mine at UPS. We worked together for many years. We talked a month ago and was hoping he would have more time.God Bless him as he went home to be with the Lord.

  13. Mike was such an amazing person and personality. I can’t believe he has left us at such a young age with such a great life and legacy. My friend will be missed so much. I hope his family knows how special a man Mike was. I’m so sorry for the loss.

  14. Mike will forever be missed and loved. Knew him since Rugby Middle School and got to enjoy a “jabby friendship” with him. If you knew him, you know what I mean. Quick witted, prankster and kept you on your toes – My kind of person! To Christy, Megan and Carter and the entire family – know he loved and cherished you all deeply. He worked so hard to thrive. In high school he was loading trucks in the wee hours of the morning – go to school, practice/play football (very successfully might I add). Don’t make em like that anymore (at least not much). 💕
