Born in: Bluff, NC
Resided in: Asheville, NC

Margaret Brown Stamey, 100, of Asheville, North Carolina, died on December 9, 2025, at Carolina Reserve of Hendersonville after a period of declining health. Having reached her centennial milestone earlier this year, Margaret left this world as she lived it: with resilience and character.

Margaret was born in Madison County, in the community of Spring Creek,on March 24, 1925. She was preceded in death by her parents, Bertha and Sydney Brown, her husband, Clyde Stamey, and her four brothers and one sister.

Born into a generation that knew the value of grit, Margaret worked hard all her life, but faced it with humor and an unshakeable joy in helping others. A devoted mother, wife, aunt, and "Nanny," she was a "one-woman band" who managed her roles with grace. Her hands were rarely still; she was a prolific seamstress and crafter who could make anything beautiful, and a cook known for making a mean biscuit that no one could quite eplicate. Professionally, she was a dedicated telephone operator, a highly valued employee at one of the pioneering manufacturers of specialized electronic components, and a part-time employee of WLOS-TV. Her commitment extended to her community, where she was an active church member, an election worker, a champion for veteran issues, and a mentor to many.

She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Margaret possessed a dry, sarcastic sense of humor that remained sharp and infectious, even as her memory began to fade in her later years. Her family will profoundly miss her warm presence, her memorable dinners, and that delightful sparkle in her eyes—often accompanied by a witty comeback.

Margaret's legacy lives on through her beloved children: Theresa Stamey of Sacramento, California; Tim Stamey and his wife, Brenda Stamey, of Atlanta, Georgia; and Gary Stamey of Asheville, North Carolina. She is also survived by her three grandchildren, Brian, Rebecca, and Jonathan, son-in-law, Nick, and her two great-grandchildren.

She will be buried beside her loving husband at the Western Carolina Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain.
A celebration of her life will be held at a later time.
