James T. “Jim” Johnson, of 15 Glenn Cable, Asheville, died Saturday, May 28, 2005, at the Hospice Solace Center.
Mr. Johnson was born in McMinnville, TN and was preceded in death by his parents James Toy Johnson, Sr. and Ruby Petty Johnson and a sister Lessie Irene Moore. He was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict and was associated with Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. for 39 years before retiring as Area Sales Manager. He was a member of Mt. Herman Lodge No. 118, A.F. & A.M.
Surviving are his wife of 17 years, Linda Madison Johnson; two daughters, Jill Johnson of Hendersonville and Tina Johnson of New Jersey; one son, Jerry Johnson of Laurens, SC; a step-daughter Joni Madison of Raleigh; a step-son Craig Madison of Asheville; three grandchildren, Miranda and Stan Johnson and Chelsea Madison, and one brother H.L. Johnson of Kingsport, TN.
A funeral service will be at 12:00 Noon Tuesday in the chapel of the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery with Chaplain Don Lederer officiating. The Buncombe County Veterans Council Memorial Team will provide military honors and burial will follow in the Veterans Cemetery.
His family will receive from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue and suggest that memorials be made to Mountain Area Hospice, PO Box 25338, Asheville, NC 28813, or to the Memory Assessment Center, 2360 Sweeten Creek Road, Asheville, NC 28803.
