A.G. "Butch" Marlowe

A. G. “Butch” Marlowe, Jr., 69, of Garren Creek Road, Fairview, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 9, 2005, at his home.
A lifelong resident of Buncombe County, he was a son of the late Alonzo and Nellie Bass Marlowe. He was a retired self-employed masonary contractor, an avid bass fisherman and a veteran of the US Army where he served in the Military Police. A member of Nesbitt’s Chapel United Methodist Church, he went on eight short term mission building trips. He also served as chairman of the church administrative board, was an active member and treasurer of the Methodist Men’s Club, a Sunday School teacher and served in various other positions.
A loving husband, father, grandfather and faithful servant of our Lord Jesus Christ, he is survived by his wife of 46 years, Shirley Benfield Marlowe; two daughters, Kim Marlowe Ray and her husband Andy of Fairview and Robin Marlowe Mellott and her husband Calvin “Cam”, Jr.; two sisters, Martha Godley of Charlotte and Sarah Cauble of Fairview; two brothers, Roy and Horace Marlowe of Fairview; five grandchildren, Brandon Ray and his wife Elizabeth, Brittany Ray, Barton “Lane” Mellott, Camille Mellott and Rowe Mellott.
Funeral services will be 11:00 am Monday at Nesbitt’s Chapel United Methodist Church with the Revs. Harrison Hinson and Phil Williams officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Brandon Ray, Lane Mellott, Rowe Mellott, Stewart Meiners, Bud Marlowe, Roy Marlowe, Jr., Andy Ray and Cam Mellott serving as pall bearers.
His family will receive friends from 7:00-8:30 pm Sunday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue and request that memorials be made to Nesbitt’s Chapel UMC, c/o Sarah Cauble, Treasurer, 103 Caubleville Drive, Fletcher, NC 28732.
With all our love and sorrow he will be missed by all.
