Asheville – Lura Earwood Waites of Charland Forest, died Saturday, July 30, 2005. A native of Buncombe County, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Sally Harrison Earwood and was also preceded in death by a daughter, Elaine Mease in 2002. She was a member of Emmas Grove Baptist Church and retired in 2002 from ITT Teves Automotive. Mrs. Waites is survived by two sons, William H. Head, III and his wife Deborah, of Ft Mill, SC and Will Waites of Asheville; a sister, Alice Lewis, and her husband Sanford, of Asheville; two grandchildren, Robert Mease, and his wife Stephanie, of Fayetteville, NC and Dawn Nicole Head of Ft. Mill. She is also survived by a niece, Vickie Sprung, and her husband Jim, of Fletcher and a nephew, Rodney Lewis and his wife Dorothy, of Clayton, Indiana. A memorial service will be held at 6 pm Thursday in the chapel of Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian conducted by the Rev. Donnie Chapman. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Mountain Area Hospice Foundation, P.O. Box 25338, Asheville, NC 28813 or to the American Heart Assn., 3535 Pelham Road, Suite 101, Greenville, SC 29615.

  1. To Lura’s family — God bless you in your bereavement. I worked with Lura at Continental Teves in Asheville. She was a beautiful lady. So sorry to hear of her passing. We shared many conversations on the assembly line. I enjoyed knowing her.

  2. My heart goes out to Lura’s family. She was a good person to work with and I enjoyed my time with her at ITT. We shared alot of stories about her Dad who delivered our newspaper when I lived in Fairview many years ago. My thoughts and prayers are with each of you.

I will always remember Lura for being so supportive to rod and i when our first son Scott was killed in sept 95 Lura and Elaine travelled all the way to our home town in newport n.c. i will always remember her kindess to us both on that day.
