Ruby Anne Justice Plemmons, 88, formerly of Israel Road, Candler, died Monday, August 15, 2005, at the Rickman Center, Western Carolina Baptist Home. Mrs. Plemmons was born in Haywood County but lived her early years in McDowell County and most of her adult life in Buncombe County. She was a daughter of the late Herman McDonald Justice and Mary Lee Holcombe Justice and was also preceded in death by her husband of 55 years Merlin J. Plemmons who died in 1989, three sons, Bobby Plemmons, Ben Plemmons and Pastor Bill Plemmons and a son-in-law, Jack Thompson. She was a devoted homemaker and a member of Glady Baptist Church. Surviving are three daughters, Christine Messer and her husband Jim of Candler and Helen Thompson and Anne Kirkland and her husband Kenny of Atlanta, GA; one son, J. Michael Plemmons and his wife Deborah of Candler; two sisters Jean Bailey of Cocoa Beach, FL and Martha Armstrong of Cruso; a brother Joe Justice of Charlotte; fourteen grandchildren and twenty-two great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be at 3:00 p.m. Thursday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Reverend Charles Sprinkle officiating. Burial will be at Pisgah View Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Neil, David, Steve and Benny Plemmons, Brian and Gene Messer and Kenneth Jones. Her family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m. Thursday prior to the service at the funeral home and at other times will be at the home of Mike and Deborah Plemmons, 73 Israel Road, Candler. Flowers will be accepted or if one wishes memorials may be made to the American Breast Cancer Foundation, 1220-B East Joppa Road, Suite 328, Baltimore, MD 21286. She was a kind and generous person who never complained even in life’s most difficult times. Her attitude was that of an encourager. Ruby had a solid principled foundation.

  2. Ann, Chris, Helen, Mike, all grandchildren & great grandchildren. Mrs. Plemmons was an honorable woman. I spent much time at her house in my younger days. Today my heart goes to each of you as just a little over 2 years ago I lost my Mom. Ms. Plemmons and Mother were side by side in the nursing home.. God bless each of you. sorry we can’t be there but we are thinking of you.. Our sympathy goes to each of you at this sorryful time

    I AM SORRY ABOUT THE LOSS OF YOUR MOM. I NEVER HAD THE PLEASURE OF MEETING HER BUT FROM WHAT YOU HAVE SHARED WITH ME,SHE WAS QUITE A WOMAN. TAKE COMFORT IN KNOWING SHE IS WITH YOUR DAD AND THE REST OF THE FAMILY IN PREPARING ONE GLORIOUS HOME COMING.

  8. I was so sorry to hear about your mother’s passing. So many happy memories fill my mind when I think of our visits to Aunt Ruby and Uncle Merlin in my younger years. It really seems just a short time ago when I start to look back. She will truly be missed by all who knew her.
