Asheville ~ Donald Wayne East, 80, of Lambeth Drive died on Monday, April 24, 2006 at his residence.
Born in Newark, New Jersey, Mr. East was the son of the late Douglas Whitehouse and Astrid Fagereng East. He was a professional engineer working with several telecommunications companies. Mr. East was a veteran of WW II in the 100th infantry division. He was a member of Calvary Episcopal Church.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Margot Struve East of Asheville; two daughters, Debra Fajay of Marietta, GA and Cynthia Devlin of Mandeville, LA.; a son, Russell East of The Woodlands, TX; seven grandchildren, Sean and Jeffrey Fajay, Laura and Jason East, Jody, Jamie and Melinda Devlin; a brother, Douglas East of Chester Springs, PA.
A funeral service will be held 11:00 AM on Friday in Calvary Episcopal Church with Rev. Father Victor Mansfield officiating.
The family will receive friends following the service in the church well hall.
A private family graveside will be held in Calvary Churchyard
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Calvary Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 187, Fletcher, NC 28732 or to Deerfield Episcopal Retirement Community.
Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian on Long Shoals Road is in charge of arrangements.

Don was such a treasure; I know that his wonderful sense of humor kept you cheered even during his illness. We will all miss him deeply.
I’m sorry that I will miss the service; I have to be out of town, but I’m looking forward to a big hug when I return.
