Norman B. "Deac" Snyder, 89, of 116 Hazel Mill Road, Asheville, died Monday, September 4, 2006, at the Laurels of Summit Ridge.
Mr. Snyder was born in Buncombe County and was the son of the late Alfred and Stella Stewart Snyder. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Celia Penland Snyder, who died in 2004, and by a son, Norman Snyder and a sister, Verna Wise.
Mr. Snyder was a retired driver with Akers Trucking Company and was a member of Midway Baptist Church, where he sang, played guitar, and served as Chairman of the Deacons.
He is survived by two daughters, Delores Norton and Jeannette Parker of Asheville; four sons, Darius Snyder, Eugene Snyder, and Jerry Snyder, all of Asheville, and Marcus A. Snyder of Candler; 23 grandchildren, 57 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Revs. Randy Crane and Terry Sprouse officiating. Burial will be at Pisgah View Memorial Park.
His family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
