Frances Elliott McElrath, 81, of Ballard Cove Rd., Candler, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, January 15, 2007 after a long illness. She was daughter of the late Fred and Tishue Elliott. Mrs. McElrath was also preceded in death by her husband, John T. McElrath, who died in 2000; sister, Mary Kanupp; and her brothers, Jimmy Joe Elliott and Roy Fred Elliott. She resided in Buncombe County most of her life and was a dedicated and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Mrs. McElrath was an early employee of American Enka, but spent most of her life as a homemaker, caregiver and a great support to her friends and family. She was a member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church. Mrs. McElrath is survived by her daughter, Phyllis Ann Godfrey, of Candler; grandsons, Steve and Mark Godfrey, of Candler; great-grandchildren, Ashley, Amanda, Aimee, Shawn and McKayla Godfrey; sister, Beatrice E. Howell, of Candler; brothers, Eugene Earl Elliott and Henry F. Elliott, of Candler, and Ernest Jay Elliott of Florida. A funeral service will be at 11:00 AM Thursday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue with the Revs. Bobby Winebarger and Eugene Dodd officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church Cemtery. Serving as pallbearers will be Steve, Mark, and Shawn Godfrey, Lefaine Howell, Roy Jr. Elliott, and Hal Stowers. Her family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

  4. Hi, I am one of the CNA’s that helped take care of Miss Frances. I also went to church with her. I am sorry. She was a great lady, and we will miss her smile, and laughter. Well hope ya’ll are ok, and I am praying for you guys.

  6. I have shared many wonderful times with Francis, at church in our class, and visiting her in the nursing home. Every time I saw her she was praising God and talking about witnessing for Him whereever she was and doing His will. Now she is prising Him face to face! No trouble breathing, not a worry or a care! Oh how I envy her for her journey is over! You have only to feel sad for the loss for WE KNOW WHERE FRANCIS IS! Prepare to join her in Heaven! You all are in my prayers.
