Sue Kennerly Howell, 89, of 1569 Jenkins Valley Rd., Alexander, died on Friday, February 2, 2007, at Hospice Solace Center. A native of Buncombe Co., Mrs. Howell was a daughter of the late Samuel R. and Ollie Bridges Kennerly. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Coman F. Howell, who died in 1984, and by her sisters, Beulah Broyles and Evelyn Robinson, and brothers, Gay Kennerly and Ray Kennerly. Mrs. Howell retired as a supervisor at American Enka. She was active with Meals on Wheels and was a member of UMW (United Methodist Women). She was a member of Dix Creek Chapel United Methodist Church. Mrs. Howell is survived by her daughters, Linda Demos and husband George, of Alexander, and Peggy Burgin and husband Paul, of Columbia, SC; sisters, Ruth Robinson and Margaret Patton, both of Asheville; grandchildren, Robert Gregory Sams, Demetri Demos, and Dustin Demos and wife Sherri; and great-grandchildren, Justin and Tyler Demos, and Rayanne Demos. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Dix Creek Chapel with the Revs. John W. Clements and Dr. Ronnie Owen officiating. Interment will follow at Green Hills Cemetery. Her family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Flowers are appreciated, or memorials may be made to Mountain Area Hospice, PO Box 25338, Asheville, NC 28813.

  1. Dear Linda, you worked with my Mom, Betty Cole, at Square D. She spoke of you often and I know you helped her through many insurance questions. I remember your Mom when I attended Dix Creek Chapel as a little girl. I don’t get home much anymore, as I have come to realize’home’ is where you are planted. It’s a difficult thing to lose one’s Mother. My thoughts and prayers are with you as you work through this most difficult time.
