Emma Louise Medford Smith, 56, formerly of Asheville, Stamford, CT, and Chicago, IL, died Monday, April 21, 2003, in Charlottesville, VA.
Mrs. Smith was born in Buncombe County and was a daughter of Mary Lunsford Medford of Asheville and the late J. Willard Medford. Mrs. Smith's love of beauty was expressed through her avid interest in gardening and photography. She worked as a real estate broker for 25 years and was a former member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church.
In addition to her mother she is survived by her husband, David J. Smith; two sons, David Smith and Richard Smith; a sister, Jennie Butler and five brothers, Tim, Henry, James W., Harley and Alfred Medford.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Fr. John M. Pagel at 9:00 am Monday, April 28, at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
Her family will receive friends from 7 - 9 Sunday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue.
My deepest condolences to the Smith family. Emma was my best friend for many years. She will be missed but she will always exist in my heart.
