Christine Gosnell Metcalf

Asheville ~ Christine Gos-nell Metcalf, 93, of Asheville, went to be with her Heavenly Father on Thursday, May 8, 2008 at Mountain Area Hos-pice Solace Center. A life long resident of Buncombe County, she was the daughter of the late Carl and Allie Ensley Gosnell. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Rumbo Metcalf and a son, Jackie Rumbo Metcalf, two brothers, Wellman and Johnnie Gosnell and one sister. She was a member of the Oak Grove Christian Church. She was a loving and car-ing mother and Ma Maw; al-ways available for all needs. She enjoyed singing and mu-sic and shared her musical talents with her family at gatherings. Survivors left to cherish her memory include four daughters, Maxine Metcalf Maynard and husband Grover of Ar-den, Patricia Metcalf Ducker and husband David of Asheville, Betty Metcalf Valentine and husband Jerry of Brevard and Sandra Metcalf Harris Ellis of Hendersonville; thir-teen grandchildren; Ronald and Brandon Maynard, Sherry Maynard Farmer, Davey, Danny Donny and Dustin Ducker, Jackie and Kevin Metcalf, Scott Harris, Tammy, Darla and Krista Valentine; twenty-eight great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be held 3:00 P.M. Sunday in the chapel of Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian on Long Shoals Road with the Rev. Tommy Bridges officiating. Burial will follow in Avery's Creek Christian Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 3:00 P.M. Sunday prior to the service at the funeral home. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation for all of the staff at the John F. Keever Hospice Solace Center in Asheville.
