Thomas Hoyle "Skeet" Rogers, 85, of Leicester, died Friday, January 16, 2009, at his home.
A native of Buncombe County, he was a son of the late William McKinley and Kate Anderson Rogers. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Fred W. Rogers and a sister, Mary Lee Sloan.
Mr. Rogers was a retired USPS mail carrier and was also a farmer. A member of Grace United Methodist Church, he was a US Army veteran of WWII and served in the European Theatre.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Lethia Sluder Rogers; two daughters, Phyllis Adams and husband Lee of Asheville and Jackie Gillespie and husband Harold of Leicester; a son, W.C. Rogers and wife Brenda of Leicester; five grandchildren, David W. Rogers, Ashlee Rainwater and husband Adam, Jonathan Adams, Casey McAninch and Jordan McAninch; one great-grandchild, Bryce Rainwater.
Funeral services will be 11:00 am Wednesday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Revs. Dr. W.E. Zopp and Charles Phillips officiating.
Burial will follow at Green Hills Cemetery.
His family will receive friends from 6:00-9:00 pm Tuesday at the funeral home.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Grace UMC, c/o Dr. W.E. Zopp, 2195 New Leicester Highway, Asheville, NC 28806.

I was so sorry to hear about the loss of Skeet.He was such a wonderful man.The last few times we saw each other I always joked with him about being the only man in Leicester to rate curbside service at the flower shop.I will greatly miss his wonderful smile,personality,and never being without a joke. I know he is still packing the roads,but there just golden now.God’s blessings to you all at this time.

I am so sorry to hear about your loss. Mr. Rogers was such a kind and sweet man. I worked at Wachovia and when he would come by the drive thru, he would bring apples or oranges, and would always say, ‘make sure Brenda gets one.’ Such a special person that always made others feel special too. He will be missed. May God be with each of you and bless you always and in all ways.

We were sorry to hear of the passing of our friend, Skeet. He used to take my Dad with him to Tn. and Statesville,N.C. to pick up equipment. Dad always enjoyed the time they spent together. I went to him as well for advice and equipment needs. He will be sadly missed in the community. We are glad we had the privilege of knowing him.
