Manuel William Banks, 91, of Old Leicester Highway, Asheville, died Friday, May 29, 2009.
Born in Madison County, he was a son of the late Samuel Jackson Banks and Malinda Lunsford Banks. Mr. Banks was also preceded in death by two brothers, Earnest Banks and wife Beulah, Bennie Banks and brother-in-law, Ted Corn.
A mechanic by trade, Mr. Banks worked for over 25 years with Banks Blocks and later retired from Martin's Garage. He loved to watch NASCAR and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include three sisters, Lura Lee Corn of Asheville, Edna Stowe and husband Bud of Asheville, Barbara Phillips and husband Howard of Knoxville; three brothers, Howard Banks and wife Carolyn of Asheville, Dewey Banks and wife Barbara of Fairview, Jackie Banks and wife Judy of Asheville.
Graveside services will be 3:30 pm Sunday at New Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery with the Reverend John Erwin officiating.
His family will receive friends from 2:00-3:00 pm Sunday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue prior to the graveside service.
Memorials may be made to one's favorite charity.
