Clyde Willard Wright

March 25, 1909 ~ December 22, 1998
Clyde Willard Wright of 7 Woodcrest Road, Asheville, civic leader and
philanthropist, died Tuesday, Dec. 22, 1998 at the Western North Carolina
Baptist Retirement Center. He was the son of the late Marion and Jessie
Wright and was born in Murphy, NC, March 25, 1909.
Mr. Wright was an Army Air Corps veteran of W.W. II and retired in 1974
after 47 years with Merrill Lynch. His entire career was spent in Asheville
where he became a partner and vice-president, serving as manager of the
Asheville complex during his last thirty years. He was a member of Grace
Covenant Presbyterian Church, an active member of the Asheville Rotary
Club and the Wagon Train at the County Club of Asheville. Clyde and
Mildred Wright established a scholarship fund with the Community
Foundation of Western North Carolina.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Mildred Pugh Wright; three
sisters, Edith W. Goebel, Vesta Chandley Hardy and Marjorie W.
McElreath; a brother, Pat Marion Wright, all of Asheville and numerous
nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one sister and four
brothers.
Graveside services will be held at 11 am Thursday at Green Hills
Cemetery conducted by the Rev. Bill Bigham. The family will receive
friends following the service at the cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Clyde
and Mildred Wright Scholarship Fund of Western North Carolina
Community Foundation, P.O. Box 1888, Asheville, NC 28802.

Mr. Wright Hired me to work at Merrill Lynch 11/65. I enjoyed my years of employment with him. He was a very Kind, gentleman. He and Mildred will alway be a special part of my memory.
