James Eugene White
November 1, 1931 ~ December 23, 1998
James E. 'Jim' White, 67 of Dogwood Road, Candler died Wednesday,
December 23, 1998, at the Mountain Area Hospice Solace Center.
Mr. White was a native of Buncombe County and was a son of the late
Clifford S. White and Georgia Mae White Huntley. He served two years in
the U.S. Army, played semi-pro ball for American Enka Industrial League
and coached baseball for Hominy Valley Little League. He was a BASF
retiree and a member of Pole Creek Baptist Church. He was preceeded in
death by a brother David White and three half sisters Eleanor Garland,
Katherine White and Thelma Sampson.
Surviving are his wife, Alberta Hice White; a daughter and son-in-law
Janet and Phillip Wills of Roswell, Ga.; two sons Steve White and Scott
White and his wife Tanya; three grandchildren, Keaton, Scottie and Olivia
White all of Candler; five brothers Floyd White, Lewis White and Paul
White all of Asheville, Bobby White of Hudson, and the Rev. Mack White
of Swannona; a half brother Clifford White of Oklahoma; mother-in-law
Florence Hice of Candler; and a sister-in-law and brother-in-law Carolyn
and Kenneth Elingburg, of Candler.
Service will be 2:00 PM Saturday in the chapel of Groce Funeral Home
with the Revs. Dennis Thurman, G.W. Jameson and Tim Moore officiating.
Honorary Pallbearers are Charley Justice, Dan Satterwhite and Ray
White. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service
at the funeral home. Interment will be in Snow Hill United Methodist
Church Cemetery.
