Charles Vernon Marlowe, 74, of 84 Joe Jenkins Road, Fairview, died Tuesday, August 17, 1999 in Memorial Mission Hospital.
A native of Buncombe County, he was a son of the late Alonzo and Nellie Bass Marlowe. He was also preceded in death by a sister Mary McBrayer and a brother Leslie Marlowe. Mr. Marlowe was a retired building contractor and a veteran of WWII. He was a member and deacon of Cane Creek Baptist Church for the past 45 years. He is very much loved by his family and many others who met him over the years.
Mr. Marlowe is survived by his wife Alma McKinney Marlowe; five daughters, Trisha Harper of Mills River, Diana Hensley of Candler, Debra Taylor, Sheila Alley and Denise Sales all of Fairview; two sisters, Martha Godley of Charlotte and Sarah Cauble of Fairview; five brothers, Roy, Paul, Horace and Butch all of Fairview and Johnson of Blacksburg, VA; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Friday at Cane Creek Baptist Church with Pastor Robbie Suttles, Former Pastor Kenny Ray and friend and neighbor Mr. Larry Turner officiating. Burial will follow in Cane Creek Cemetery with pallbearers being his nephews Roy Marlowe, Richard McBrayer, Mike Marlowe, Tim Marlowe, Bud Marlowe and friend Jerry McCall.
His family will receive friends 7-8:30 Thursday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue where the body will remain until being placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service.
