James Earl Jones, Jr., 61, a native and resident of Buncombe County, died Saturday, January 8, 2000.

Mr. Jones was a son of the late James Earl Jones, Sr. and Beatrice Taylor Jones. He was a former employee of Harris Chevrolet in Chapel Hill and McMurray Chevrolet in Black Mountain and had worked at Carolina Tractor since 1971. He was an avid outdoorsman, especially enjoying hunting, fishing, swimming and water-skiing.

Surviving are his wife of 42 years, Dorothy Creasman Jones; two daughters and sons-in-law, Tina and Bill Holloman of Asheville and Anita and George (Jed) Clayton of Fletcher; three grandsons, Edward Holloman, Lawrence W. “L.B.” Brown and George M. Clayton, III; three sisters, Norma Bugg, Judy Tipton, and Elaine (Joanie) Carver, and a brother, Bill Jones, all of Asheville.

A memorial service will be at 3:00 pm Tuesday at the First Baptist Church, Swannanoa, with the Rev. Dr. Jerry Pereira officiating.

His family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church and request that memorials in Mr. Jones’ name be made to the Swannanoa First Baptist Church Building Fund, 503 Park Street, Swannanoa, NC 28778.

Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue is assisting the family.
