Mr. Poag was born in Lincoln County and was a son of the late James Crawford Poag, Sr. He was a 1969 graduate of Ashley High School, Gastonia, and had lived in the Asheville area for the past thirteen years.
He had been a sales and finance manager for automobile dealers and had also developed a computer business designing and installing web sites across the country.
He is survived by his wife, Ann Weaver Poag; a son, Charles G. Poag of the home; a step-son, Jeremiah Browning of Arden; his mother, Leanora Gamble Poag of Gastonia; a sister, Hope Poag Parks of Gastonia and a brother, James C. Poag, Jr. of Gastonia.
Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Thursday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. Ronnie Owen officiating. Burial will be at Green Hills Cemetery.
His family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home and request that memorials be made to Mt. Carmel Baptist Church Building Fund, 200 Mt. Carmel Road, Asheville, NC 28806.
To the family of John Poag: I just came across John’s memorial via computer 12-12-04. May John be Free and at Peace now with our Lord Jesus forever. He will always be remembered. God bless you all. Linda
