Robert Earl Jones, 73, of Salem, SC died Thursday, January 20, 2000 at Memorial Mission Hospital in Asheville.
Born in Meridian, Mississippi, he was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific on the USS Saratoga. He was a professional engineer and business leader, founding Engineering Associates (later EA INDUSTRIES) designing and building material handling systems. EA grew to employ as many as 250 people in the mid 1970’s. Upon retirement in 1987, he moved to Lake Keowee in Salem, SC and grew to love the people and community of Keowee Key.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Maebur Reece Jones of Salem; four children, Bob E. Jones and wife Robin, Dan Jones and wife Sandie, Cindy Corley and husband Robert, and Ken Jones and wife Lisa, all of Asheville; five grandchildren and one great-grandson. He is also survived by a brother, Carroll Jones of Portsmouth, VA.
The immediate family will hold a private service, but would welcome family friends and colleagues to drop in on a celebration of his life on Tuesday, January 25th between 4:00 pm and 7:00 pm at the Woodfield Inn on US 25 in Flat Rock, NC
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Robert Earl Jones Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o the Arden NC Rotary Club, P.O. Box 268, Arden, NC 28704.
Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian is in charge of arrangements.
