Asheville Butterfly TrailMrs. Lyda was born in Buncombe County, was a daughter of the late Willard and Kate Smith Pruitt, Sr. and was married to Thomas Edward Lyda who died in 1984. She was also preceded in death by a daughter Margie Lyda in 1993, a sister, Virginia Angel, and a brother, Grady Pruitt. She was a former member of Biltmore Baptist Church.
Surviving are two daughters, Betty Roberts of Asheville and Nancy Smith of Hendersonville; two sons, William E. Lyda of Middleburg, FL and Tommy L. Lyda of Arden; three sisters, Helen James of Detroit, MI and Jane Hensley and Shirley Gowan of Asheville; two brothers, Willard “Chun” Pruitt, Jr. and Ray Pruitt of Asheville; ten grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm Saturday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Rev. Willard Pruitt officiating. Burial will be at Woodlawn Memorial Park.
Her family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
