HERMAN B. LUTHER Herman Bryan Luther, 84, of 22 Karen Place, Asheville, died Sunday, October 26, 2003, at Pisgah Manor Nursing Center. Mr. Luther was born in Buncombe County and was preceded in death by his parents, Othel and Hermie Duckett Luther and by a brother, Maurice L. Luther. He was an Army veteran of WW II and was retired from APAC. He was a member and former deacon of Starnes Cove Baptist Church and was a member of the Hominy Lodge, A.F. & A.M. Surviving are his wife, Velva Metcalf Luther; two daughters, Betty A. Waldrop and her husband Tony of Asheville and Linda L. Raines and her husband Jim of Arden; two sons, James B. Luther and his wife Gaylyn of Warner Robins, GA and Frank A. Luther and his wife Mamie of Linville, NC; one brother, Carroll Luther of Asheville; eleven grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 1:00 pm Tuesday at Starnes Cove Baptist Church with the Rev. Charlie Sams officiating. Burial will be at Ashelawn Gardens. Grandsons will be pallbearers and the Senior Adult Men’s Sunday School Class will serve as honorary pallbearers. His family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service and request that memorials be made to the Benevolence Fund of Starnes Cove Baptist Church, 149 Starnes Cove Road, Asheville, NC 28806. Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue is in charge of the arrangements.

  4. We only knew Herman for a short time, but found that he loved the Lord, and was a determined individual when it came to keeping the church in order. We have grown to love all of you, and our condolences go out to the family.
