JAMES W. FRESH, M.D. James William Fresh, M.D., 74, of Green Cove Springs, FL, died Thursday, October 12, 2000, at Life Care Center, Orange Park, FL. He was born Saturday, January 9, 1926, in Toccoa, Stevens County, Georgia, and served on active duty in the United States Navy in medical research units in Taipei, Taiwan; Alameda, CA, and Cairo, Egypt before moving to Florida in 1975 and retiring as a Captain in the Navy Medical Corps with 30 years service in July, 1976. James was a Methodist, a retired Doctor of Pathology, specializing in tropical medicine, a graduate of Lenoir Rhyne College in Hickory, and the UNC School of Medicine. He was a member of the American Medical Association, the US Armed Forces Institute of Pathology, the Ale Temple in Sardis, GA, and the Shriners Temple in Savannah, GA. He is survived by his wife, Frances M. Fresh of Green Cove Springs, FL; son, Alexander M. Fresh of Jacksonville, FL; daughter, Elinore L. Fresh of Green Cove Springs; sister, Elinore McCaskill and brother-in-law William G. McCaskill of Pinehurst, NC; nieces Sue Stewart of Carthage, NC, Jane Rock of Raleigh, NC, Mona Jean Fossee of Wexford, PA, and Donna J. Ferrere of Grove City, PA; and sister-in-law,Mrs. Vivian Fresh of Grove City, PA.

Military graveside rites will be at 11:00 am Saturday, October 21, at Riverside Cemetery, Asheville. Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue is in charge of the arrangements.
