Asheville ~ Jeanette Stepp Gwaltney, 83, of Asheville died January 29, 2011 at Mission Hospital. Mrs. Gwaltney was born in Buncombe County and was a daughter of the late James Arthur and Mae Lewis Stepp. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Charles Leslie Gwaltney who passed away in 2002. She was a member of Groce United Methodist Church. Mrs. Gwaltney is survived by a daughter, Susan Gwaltney Miller and her husband, Bob, of Asheville; four sons, Paul Gwaltney and his wife, Edith, of Thousand Oaks, CA, Charlie Gwaltney and his wife, Kay, of Richmond, VA, Phillip Gwaltney and his wife, Barbara, of Honolulu, HI and Tim Gwaltney and his wife, Pam, of Charlotte, NC; one brother, Richard P. Stepp of Fairfax, VA; fifteen grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 5, 2011 at 11:00 AM at Groce United Methodist Church in Asheville with Reverends Gerald Davis and Jeremy Gwaltney officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Swannanoa United Methodist Church Welcome Table, 216 Whitson Avenue, Swannanoa, NC 28778 or to the Groce United Methodist Church Children's Choir, 954 Tunnel Rd, Asheville, NC 28805. Groce Funeral Home East Asheville on Tunnel Road is in charge of arrangements.
