Jerry Lee Banks, Sr., 65, of Asheville, died on Friday, August 12, 2011, at his home.
A native of Buncombe Co., Mr. Banks was a son of the late Charles Monroe and Vera Leona Franklin Banks. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Charles Banks, Jr., and Clayton Banks.
Mr. Banks worked as a steampipe fitter at Mission Hospitals for 38 years, retiring in 2008. For the past 3 years, he has worked at the WNC Farmer's Market. He was a member of Sand Hill Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia Millard Banks; sons, Jerry Lee Banks, Jr., Paul Daniel Banks, Joseph Millard Banks and wife Tracey, all of Asheville; sisters, Barbara Wright and husband Leroy, of Weaverville; brothers, Glenn Banks and wife Pat, of Leicester, and Jackie Banks and wife Louise, of Asheville; and two grandchildren, Brandi Danielle Banks, and Blake Daniel Banks.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. in the Patton Ave. chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Rev. Jimmy Page officiating. Interment will follow at Pisgah View Memorial Park.
His family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the funeral home to assist with expenses.
I am so sorry for your loss. Papaw was a wonderful man and I loved him dearly. He will surely be missed but Heaven needed another rose in the beautiful garden. I love you all very much.
what do you say at a time like this but how sorry we are for the loss of jerry/ father/ grandfather and husband and friend he was a very good man and was very well love by his family and will be missed by all he touched in his short time on earth

Jerry was a good friend and fishing buddy. I will surely miss him.

Sue, I am sorry for your loss. Jerry was such a good man. He treated me like a son when Lee and I were young. I will never forget swimming in the pond after it was first dug and Jerry warning us of snakes…laughing at us because we got so muddy in it.My prayers are with you and your family.
