Jerry Lee Banks

Jerry Lee Banks, Sr., 65, of Asheville, died on Friday, August 12, 2011, at his home. A native of Buncombe Co., Mr. Banks was a son of the late Charles Monroe and Vera Leona Franklin Banks. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Charles Banks, Jr., and Clayton Banks. Mr. Banks worked as a steampipe fitter at Mission Hospitals for 38 years, retiring in 2008. For the past 3 years, he has worked at the WNC Farmer's Market. He was a member of Sand Hill Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Virginia Millard Banks; sons, Jerry Lee Banks, Jr., Paul Daniel Banks, Joseph Millard Banks and wife Tracey, all of Asheville; sisters, Barbara Wright and husband Leroy, of Weaverville; brothers, Glenn Banks and wife Pat, of Leicester, and Jackie Banks and wife Louise, of Asheville; and two grandchildren, Brandi Danielle Banks, and Blake Daniel Banks. Funeral services will be held on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. in the Patton Ave. chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Rev. Jimmy Page officiating. Interment will follow at Pisgah View Memorial Park. His family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the funeral home to assist with expenses.
