Betty Dennis
Arden – Betty Dennis died peacefully at home in Arden, NC on Saturday, August 20, 2011. Betty was born on July 29, 1921 to William and Marta Osterwind in Gladbeck, Germany. After spending the first half of her adult life in Venezuela and raising her family there, Betty and her husband, Robert, retired to Arden in July 1966.
Betty is survived by her son and daughter, four grandchildren, and four great-grandsons. Betty's greatest joy in life was her time with the students at T.C. Roberson High School where she served as a substitute teacher for 40 years. She thought they were all wonderful and she loved them all.
In accordance with Betty's wishes, a private funeral will be held for family members. Betty requested that a Celebration of Life gathering be held at a later date. An announcement will be made in this paper regarding that celebration. It will be an opportunity to share favorite stories and good food, two of Betty's other great joys in life.
In lieu of flowers, Betty requested that contributions might be made to Meals on Wheels (www.mowabc.org) or Asheville Buncombe Community Christian Ministry (www.abccm.org).
Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian is assisting the family.

May the peace of God be with you in this time of loss. Ms. Dennis was an amazing woman. I always enjoyed when she would substitute for my teachers. She was always able to make good out of everything. You will be missed.
To Mrs. Dennis’ family,
I am saddened to hear Mrs. Dennis passed away. Any time I think of a substitute teacher, I always think of her first. She loved each and every one of ‘her’ students and loved sharing her stories of all her adventures of her life. She will be missed and it’s unfortunate that generations to come won’t have the experience those of us who have met her have had.
I pray that God will comfort and keep you through this difficult time. I know she will be always smiling down on us. One of the many lives forever touched by her, I am…
Sincerely,
Stephanie Lance Haynie

Ms. Dennis was everyones favorite substitute at TC. I remember the first time she substituted for my drama class, I absolutely loved her from the get go. Everytime after that when I saw her in the halls or in a class, I’d go up and she’d wrap me in a hug, ask how I was, say she missed me. I’m really going to miss her sincerity, she was one of the strongest women I’ve ever met.
May God be with the family of Mrs. Betty, my condolences. Betty was a sweet lady, who brought smiles to every classroom she entered. She knew how to put even the.rowdiest of teens in their place, and offer up stories, kind words, and smiles to anyone she came across. Betty is now with the angels, probley watching over here family, and the students of TCR. God Bless.
