Ruby Wilson Keener, 93, of Cowan Rd., Asheville, died Thursday, October 6, 2011, at the John F. Keever Hospice Solace Center. A native of Madison Co., she was a daughter of the late Floyd and Nancy Sexton Wilson. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Paul T. Keener, who died April 12, 1990; sons, Richard Keener and Samuel E. Keener; and brothers Ray and Wayne Wilson. Mrs. Keener is survived by children Paul (Wanda) Keener, Barbara (Richard) Brown, Lillian and Betty Keener, Norman (Dottie) Keener, Judy (Nathan) LaFlamm, Larry (Beth) Keener, and Rose Ann Keener; 7 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; sister Verna Wurster; and sisters-in-law Marilee Penland and Roxie Brinkley. A funeral service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Saturday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jed Douglas and the Rev. Richard Brown officiating. Interment will follow at Cedar Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. Her family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. A special thanks to the Hospice Team, Bessie, Cindy, Jay, and nurses at CarePartners; and to Ann, faithful friend and caregiver.

  1. I have known Ruby Keener and family for 58 yrs. She had the ability to make you laugh in any given situation. The Lady knew how to cook. I ate as many meals at her house,as I did at my house. The Keener family are the first ones I have known to put mayonaise in their pinto beans. I let that one go by. She will be missed, but never forgotten. Friends are very special. I must say we were all the best of best friends. We will see you at the big House
