Ada Mildred English Gibbs, formerly of Monticello Road, Weaverville, died Thursday, February 28, 2002, at Friendship Nursing Home in Cleveland, GA.
She was the daughter of the late Samuel Henry English and Hester Jervis English and the wife of Rudolph M. Gibbs who died May 21, 1992.
Mrs. Gibbs was a member of Central United Methodist Church of Asheville since 1936, and received a life-time membership in Women’s Society of Christian Service. She was a member and Past Worthy Matron of Esther Chapter # 12, Order of Eastern Star; a member and Past Worthy High Priestess of the Order of Carolina Shrine # 1; a member and Past Worthy Matron of Asheville Court # 1 Order of the Amaranth. She was Past Mother Advisor of the Weaverville Assembly #60 Order of the Rainbow for Girls. She served many hours as a Volunteer Nurses Aid at Mission Hospital during WW II.
She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Raeford F. and Paula Beck Gibbs of Calabasas Park, CA; a daughter, Jayne Gibbs Martinez of Weaverville; two daughters and sons-in-law, Martha Gibbs and Bruce C. Jones of Gainesville, GA, and Rudena Gibbs and Porter Charles Connor of Cherryville, NC; eighteen grandchildren and twenty-two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm Sunday, March 3 in the sanctuary of Central United Methodist Church with the Revs. Rob Blackburn and Christy Harley officiating. Burial will be at Lewis Memorial Park. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
Her family will receive friends 7:00-8:30 pm Saturday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue and request that memorials be made to Central United Methodist Church or the Eliada Home for Children.
