Agnes Woodby Sprouse, 86, of 162 Onteora Blvd., Oakley, died Wednesday, August 1, 2001 in a local nursing facility.

A native of Henderson County, she resided in Buncombe County since early childhood. She was a daughter of the late John McDaniel and Sarah Ledford Woodby. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Robert Louis Sprouse in 1990; brothers, William, George, Gordon and Teddy Woodby; and a sister Rose Ella Woodby Butler.

Mrs. Sprouse was employed for many years at the Biltmore House and attended the Emanuel Cathedral in Oakley and the Fruit of Labor Worship Center in Asheville. Agnes loved the Lord deeply and served Him with her life. She will be missed very much by all who knew and loved her.

Survivors include her step-daughter, Mary Anne Denton of Arden, two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a very close and special niece and nephews, Wanda and Jim Meadows, Michael, Debra and Raymond Woodby all of Asheville and several other nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday in the Patton Avenue Chapel of Groce Funeral Home. The service will be conducted by her great-nephew, Rev. Michael Woodby, nephew, Rev. Ray Woodby, Rev. Willie Warren and Jimmy Sales. Burial will follow in Green Hills Cemetery.

Her family will receive friends 7-8:30 Thursday at the funeral home.
