Alda Lee Dodd Walsh, 69, of Alexander, went to be with the Lord Friday, November 11, 2011. Mrs. Walsh was born February 20, 1942, to the late Willie Lee and Laura Snelson Dodd. She was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, William Walsh, Jr., who died July 14, 2011, and sister, Alice Thomas Alda was a graduate of Mars Hill High School and retired from the Buncombe County School System after many years as a dedicated teacher's assistant. She received the "Teacher's Assistant of the Year" award in 1990. Alda was a former Sunday School teacher at Turkey Creek Baptist Church, where she was a member. She is survived by a daughter, Rebecca Payne and husband, Mitch, of Alexander; son Richard Walsh and wife, Darla, of Leicester; twin sister Alma Ball and husband, Jerry, of Weaverville; four granddaughters, Olivia and Victoria Payne and twins, Hannah and Abigail Walsh; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at 3:30 p.m. Monday at Turkey Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Ricky Townsend officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue. The family expresses appreciation to Dr. Michael Messino and the staff of John F. Keever Solace Center for their great care during this time.

    Her influence on her children and grandchildren is obvious in their smiles and easy laughter.

  9. Mrs. Walsh was a special lady. We were blessed for her to be Sarah’s assistant in kindergarten at NBES. We have fond memories of that year and Mrs. Walsh will always have a special place in our hearts. Our prayers are with her family and we are thankful to God that He allowed Alda Walsh to have crossed our path of life.
