Alva R. Farmer, 67, of Johnston Blvd., died Sunday, March 18, 2012.
A native of Clearwater, FL, she was a daughter of the late Russell and Dallas Glazner Reed.
Mrs. Farmer was retired from the VA Hospital, having worked as a histology technician.
She is survived by her husband, Charles P. Farmer, of Asheville.
A memorial service will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Ave. Her family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service.
Charlie – I am so sorry to hear of the loss of Alva. I worked with her at the VA for 8 or 9 years. She was such a unique and fun person. She will be greatly missed. My thought are with you and your family.

Sorry to hear this Charlie. As you know from my all night experiences with you smoking pigs, and learning surf casting from you, I respect and admire you. A yankee… humbled in your presence. I never met Mrs. Farmer, but, God, what a woman she must have been. I’m sure she is in a better place. Godspeed to her. If you want to go fishing, just ask.
