Alwin Thomas Hansen, 91, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 25, 2021, at his home. Thomas was the son of Alwin and Rose Hansen.
Thomas graduated from Western Carolina University and earned two Masters Degrees. He served in the United States Coast Guard in the Atlantic during the Korean War. Thomas taught at Owen High School, was a Guidance Counselor and later he was The Director of Counseling at Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College for many years.
Tom was a loving Husband, Father, Grandfather and Uncle. He was a man of faith, a woodsman, nature lover and a friend to all. He will be forever missed!
Thomas was preceded in his death by his oldest son, Christian (Roberta). He is survived by Arminta, his wife of 64 years; his son, Dana (wife Julie); grandsons (Thomas and Alec); and his nieces and nephews.
A private graveside service will be held at a later date.

Just learned of Tom’s passing, and a flood of good memories flooded my head. Tom and I were co-workers at A-B Tech for many years, and shared many stories of our military. As an Air Force vet I would tease Tom about being a “swabbie”, always in good fun. Tom was a good Director of Counseling and was always a top professional.
