Asheville - Andrew “Joe”  Browning, 80, of 120 Springside Road, Asheville, died Saturday, July 3, 1999 in the Veterans Administration Medical Center.


He was a native of  Chicamaga, Tennessee and an Army veteran of W.W. II, serving with the Military Police until 1945.  He was a retired deputy with the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Department, a former member of the Buncombe County Zoning Commission and a member of the Skyland United Methodist Church.


He was a loving husband and father and was loved by his many friends.


He is survived by his wife, Lucille Peek Browning; two daughters, Pam Browning of Asheville, Melva Wallace of Cedartown, GA; four sons, Jeff Browning of Asheville, Kenneth Browning of Cedartown, GA, Jerry Browning of Fresno, California, Bruce Browning of Carolina Beach, NC; two brothers, William Browning of Norfolk, VA, John Browning of Georgia; 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.  He was also preceded in death by a sister, Bobbie Browning Baldwin and a brother Dennis Browning.


Graveside services will be held  at 11 am Monday in the Ashelawn Gardens of Memory conducted by the Rev. Arnie Corriher.
