May 23, 1959 ~ March 27, 2020

Born in: Los Angeles, CA
Resided in: Leicester, NC

On Friday, March 27, 2020, Armida Yolanda Weissman, wife and loving mother of two children, passed away at the age of 60.

Armida (Yoli) was born May 23, 1959 in Los Angeles, California and was preceded in death by her parents Fermin and Maria Robles.

Her memory will be cherished and kept alive by her husband Lawrence Weissman; children Noah (and wife Amanda) of Michigan and Marina of Chicago; sisters Maria Margarita Matthews (and husband Dean) of Leicester, NC and Maria Guadalupe Ramirez (and husband Salvador) of California; brothers Hector Robles of California, Luis Robles (and wife Gloria M.) of California, and Adrian Robles (and wife Alice) of California; brother-in-laws Allan Weissman of California and Adam Weissman (and wife Darla) of California; nephew James Christopher Matthews (and wife Virginia) of her extended Leicester family; lifelong friend Elvia Malavenda of Los Angeles; and many nephews, nieces, and cousins and friends.

Armida graduated from Immaculate Heart High School in Los Angeles, CA and went on to attend Marymount College, CA. She then enlisted in the Marine Corps where she trained and served as an electronics technician for the CH-47 Chinook heavy lift helicopter. After completing a four-year term of enlistment, she continued to serve her country in the reserves for ten years. Upon relocating to western North Carolina with her family in 1995, she served the area as a computer and network technician. Armida later worked for Buncombe County as an employee at the Department of Health and Human Services, a job she particularly enjoyed because she was able to help others.

Armida was a devout Catholic and a parishioner of the Basilica of St Lawrence for over 20 years, where she participated in the children’s faith formation classes. Armida’s favorite things to do were writing special notes in calligraphy, praying the rosary, spending time with her beloved children Marina and Noah, and socializing with friends and family. Armida’s courage and fortitude were unmatched. First diagnosed with cancer in 2010, she battled the disease through remission and recurrence several times. No matter the tribulation, she continued her battle for ten years, always with a smile on her face, love in her heart, and dedication to those she loved. She continued to work and serve her community until the very end.

She attributed her happy disposition and big smile to the support and prayers from relatives, work family, church family, and many friends. Armida was a wonderful person with nothing but love and kindness in her heart. She was a loving daughter, dedicated wife, caring mother, great coworker, and best friend sister. She touched the lives of so many, and she and her beautiful smile will be missed.

Because of the present virus emergency, a memorial service is tentatively scheduled for August; an update will be posted as we get closer to that time.
