Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. Your dad was a wonderful man and did so much ch for so many. Our hearts are broken. May his memory be eternal.

  2. Art lit the studio up when ever he was there. We all know that he would have a funny story and would have us laughing soon after his arrival. He was a giving person. He was always ready to help anyone. He loved that he got to spend time with his grandchildren. He was an amazing potter. I loved his work. There will be a great void in the studio. I will miss him as well as many of the potters at Odyssey. My heart goes out to his children, grandchildren, and friends. We lost a great guy.

  3. If there is clay in heaven, Art will turn it into something beautiful. My condolences to his family, especially his children whom he loved above all others.

  4. Art was a nice guy in high school with a sweet smile. May the Lord wrap his arms around each of you.

  5. Art has always been such a kind and caring man. He loved his children with a passion. My thoughts and prayers will be with the family at this time. He will be missed by all who knew him. His pottery will be cherished by those of us lucky enough to have pieces he made.

  6. This breaks my heart. I owe so much of my professional success to Art. I spent many hours learning from him and he was always there to answer my phone call when I needed help. He was such a kind man and will be fondly remembered by all who knew him. Rest In Peace Art.

  7. I was absolutely shocked when I learned of his passing. Like many others, Art influenced so many of us in education and just as he molded clay into beautiful pieces of art, he helped mold many of us and helped lay the groundwork for our professional careers and success. Art was a mentor to me and so many others. I was fortunate to have been able to work side by side with Art for his last 5 years before he retired. The number one thing I remember was how he was always pushing me to take the lead and to go out there and fight the good fight. He always put the students first and made sure that we knew that everything we did, that we were doing for them. He helped us go through so many battles and the ups and downs of it all. He was such a kind and caring man who just enjoyed life. If you ever felt the weight of the world on your shoulders, he was always there to listen and help you through anything you needed help with whether it was work related or just what life decided to throw at you. His passing has left a void that will be impossible to fill and I truly am happy that he got to spend the time he did with his family as that was always so important to him and I will miss him greatly. Thank you, Art. You will be missed terribly.

  8. Art was “stand-up” guy. Sadly, there aren’t very many of those anymore. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

  9. We are so saddened our former neighbor and friend has left this world. Art was already missed since he moved to North Carolina and now he’s moved permanently to heaven😳 I guess God needed a potterer and he chose Art! He got a good one❤️ Rest In Peace my friend🙏

  10. Art was our neighbor here in Tallahassee. We considered him our friend as well. We are so saddened by his passing and already miss him😪 it’s just so shocking, he was just here, right😳 God must have needed a potterer and he got a good one👍 Rest In Peace my friend😪

  11. When I began teaching at Leon, Art was beyond helpful to me. He was such a light in the media center and around campus with his tech team, such a kind mentor and instructor. At the end of the school day, his voice would be on the intercom sending students home, practice, or work, with a bit of information and “be safe”. It made Leon such a community of caring and kindness. May Art’s good deeds, and his pottery, live on in his family and those he helped and loved. I am thankful to have known him, gone too soon but in Good Hands now.

  12. We just learned of the passing of Art. He lived next door to my parents, Richard & Isabel Hornbeek in Tallahassee prior to moving to North Carolina. He always was such a kind and caring neighbor to me and my parents, and he sweetly looked in on them from time to time given their advanced years. We were grateful for his friendship and so pleased to see him recently in Tallahassee. Our prayers and sympathy go out to his family and especially his children and grandchildren whom he often spoke of and dearly loved. God bless you all.

  13. I am so sorry to hear this very sad news. Art was my colleague at Lincoln and my pottery teacher, some 30+ years ago. He was an energetic, optimistic, supportive, and kind friend and teacher. Always full of life and motion, he was a positive force in his classroom at Lincoln, and then later at Leon. May many precious memories comfort his family and loved ones.
