Arthur Lloyd Cox, 79, of 132 Lee’s Creek Road, Asheville, died Thursday, February 20, 2003, at St. Joseph Hospital. Mr. Cox was born in Henderson County and was a son of the late Calvin Sevier and Gertrude Fowler Cox. He was also preceded in death by six brothers, George, Leon, Raymond, Frank, Reginald and John Cox and four sisters, Ella Morgan, Louise Slagle, Bonnie Howell and Ester Lawarne. He was an Army veteran of WW II and was a retired Industrial Engineer with Taylor Instruments. Mr. Cox was a foster grandparent at West Buncombe Elementary School and was a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife, Donnie Jones Cox; one daughter, Janet Cox Pressley of Asheville; one son, Arthur Stephen Cox and his wife Susan of Albuquerque, NM; three grandchildren, Arthur Stephen Cox II and his wife Suzanne of Albuquerque and Edward Sean Pressley and his wife Stayce and Kelli Pressley Raymer and her husband David of Asheville; and six great-grandchildren, Arthur Stephen Cox III, Brandon Scott Cox and Robin Victoria Cox of Albuquerque, and Elijah David Raymer, Brittany Angeline Pressley, and Summer Rose Pressley of Asheville. A memorial service will be at 2:00 pm Sunday at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Ronnie Owen officiating. Interment with military honors presented by the Buncombe County Veterans Council will be at 2:00 pm Monday at Green Hills Cemetery. Stevie, Sean and Kelli will serve as pallbearers for their granddaddy. His family will receive friends from 7 - 8:30 pm Saturday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue and at other times will be at the Pressley home, 130 Lee’s Creek Road. Memorials may be made to Mt. Carmel Baptist Church Building Fund, 200 Mt. Carmel Road, Asheville, NC 28806.

    I want to express my sorrow about Arthur passing away. He was a wonderful man to everyone. I still remember all the times Chris and I went up to your house with Mom and Mamow Austin. May God bless you and your family.

When Grandpa and Grandma Holden, (mom)Carrie, Lela, Aunt Fronnie, and Author all were together with us and life at a different pace. They are all back there and we are only wishing to be there.
