Asheville ~ Barbara Cloninger Rickman, 78, formerly of Deanwood Circle, died on Friday, May 27, 2005 in a local nursing facility. Born on April 4, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Ralph and Julia Fortner Cloninger and was also preceded in death by her husband, Fred Rickman, who died in 1997. Living in Asheville since 1947, she was a retired RN with the Asheville VA Medical Center and was a member of the last graduating class of Biltmore Hospital. She was also a longtime member of St. George’s Episcopal Church. She is survived by her daughter, Terrie Anderson and husband Steve of Arden; two sisters, Phyllis Caras of Fairfax, VA and Joan Wallace of Asheville; one grandson, Brad Anderson and a great-grandson, Brayden Anderson both of Arden. A graveside service will be held 3:00 P.M. Tuesday in Calvary Episcopal Churchyard with the Rev. Anne Anderson officiating. Memorials may be made to Four Seasons Hospice and Palliative Care, P.O. Box 2395, Hendersonville, NC 28793. Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian on Long Shoals Road is in charge of arrangements.

  1. Terri I was so sorry to hear of your loss. Bobbie was a wonderful lady and will be missed by many. She was always smiling, and it was always fun bowling with her. She touched alot of people through her kindness.

  5. Terri, I am sorry to hear about your mother’s passing. She was, I thought, a real upbeat and positive person. I enjoyed seeing her at the golf course, bowling alley, or even at the grocery store. I’m sure you are going to miss her a great deal more than anyone, but take some solace in knowing that there are probably hundreds of people who are also thinking kindly of her today and in the future.     I knew your Mother from the VA where we worked. She was a wonderful lady and a great nurse.
    She was well liked by her staff, the patients she cared for and had many friends. I will always remember her and how proud she was of you and your family.
