Barbara Van Hook McGhee, 78, passed away on Sunday, June 12, 2011, at the John F. Keever Hospice Solace Center, Asheville, NC.
Barbara was born on September 30, 1932, and lived most of her life in Asheville. She worked for the Dept. of Navy in Washington, D.C., early in her career, and later retired from BASF Corp. in 1992.
She was a daughter of the late Lee Samuel and Ruby Violet Van Hook. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Arthur McGhee, who passed away in 1991, and by her daughter, Patricia Parham Reeves, who passed away in 2009.
She is survived by her daughter, Tamera Shiflette, of South Carolina; son-in-law, Ronald Reeves, of Asheville; her grandchildren, Ronnie, Jr., and Jerri Lynn Reeves, of Asheville; great-grandchild, Justin Dennis Reeves, of Hendersonville, NC; and her brother, Noel Van Hook, of Arizona.
The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Ave. Graveside rites will be given on Saturday at 9:00 a.m. at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, with Calvin Carter officiating.
The family would like to thank the wonderful staffs at the John F. Keever Hospice Solace Center and at Chunns Cove Assisted Living for the care they provided Barbara.
