Beatrice C. Melton, 92, of Black Mountain, passed away Thursday, April 27, 2017.
Born in Wilson County, NC to the late Betty Carter Creech and Charles C. Creech, Bea attended school in Pikeville, NC and played basketball during high school. She married Woodrow Daniel Melton, Sr. and they raised two children in Eastern NC. She worked at Camp Lejeune as a military pay supervisor. Bea enjoyed sewing, gardening, baking, and spending time with family and friends. She retired and lived in the Asheville NC area for over 30 years.
Bea is preceded in death by her parents and husband. Surviving are: son, Woodrow Daniel Melton, Jr. (Jane) of Clemmons, NC; daughter, Kathryn Horne of Asheville and grandson, Duane Horne of Asheville.
The family would like to thank the staff and management of Mountain Ridge Health and Rehab in Black Mountain, for their care and support for Bea the past three years.
Groce Funeral Home on Tunnel Road is helping the family with visitation Thursday evening, May 4 from 6 to 7 p.m. and the funeral service will be held in their chapel on Friday, May 5 at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Jacksonville, NC at Onslow Memorial Park on Monday, May 8 at 11 a.m.

Kathryn and Duane, I’m so sorry to hear of your Mom/Grandmothers passing. May you find peace and comfort in the Lord. You will be in my thoughts and prayers in the upcoming days. Much love to you both.
