Bennie Plemmons Moffitt Rutherford, 87, formerly of 11 Rutherford Road, Candler, died Friday, July 15, 2005, at Pisgah Manor Health Care Center. Mrs. Rutherford was born in Haywood County and was the last survivor of eight children born to the late Oscar and Mollie Gordon Plemmons. She was also preceded in death by two husbands, Sherman Moffitt and J.W. “Bill” Rutherford, Jr. and a son Ronald Moffitt. She was a graduate of Venable High School and a former employee of Asheville Packing Co., Memorial Mission Hospital and CTS. She was a member of Francis Asbury United Methodist Church. She is survived by two daughters, Bobbie Ashe and her husband Vance of Asheville and Linda Owenby and her husband Jerry of Arden; a step-son John William Rutherford III of Candler; seven grandchildren, Brenda Rhinehart, Susan Tedder, Mollie Scott, Michelle Fender, Gary Owenby, Scott Moffitt and Brian Moffitt; a step-granddaughter Stephanie Chi Rutherford; nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. A graveside service will be at 1:00 p.m. Monday at Francis Asbury United Methodist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Fred E. Carpenter officiating. Her family will receive friends at Francis Asbury Church thirty-minutes prior to the service and at other times will be at the home of Bobbie and Vance Ashe, 310 Pole Creasman Road. Memorials may be made to the General Fund of Francis Asbury UMC, PO Box 67, Candler, NC 28715. The family expresses sincere appreciation to Dr. David Wells and to the staffs of Pisgah Villas and Pisgah Manor Health Care Center for the loving care provided for Mrs. Rutherford.

  2. We were out of town this past weekend and so sad to hear of Aunt Bennie’s passing. Our prayers go out to her family.
