Bernece Elizabeth Houston Evitt Shope, 81, passed on Sunday, November 8, 2015, at the CarePartners Solace Center. Mrs. Shope was born in Macon County and was a daughter of the late Sam and Rachel Houston and was also preceded in death by her husband, Leland C. Evitt, and by siblings, Ella Mae McClure, Betty McClure, Sammy Houston, Bud Houston and Ray Houston. She was a dedicated member of Trinity Baptist Church where she volunteered in the kitchen and with Hearts with Hands. Surviving are her husband, David Shope; daughters, Karen Knowlton (Chuck) and Kim Tate (Ken); sons, Derek Evitt (Julie), Thad Evitt (Pamela) and Kraig Evitt (Crystal); 12 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; sisters, Faye Sands, Laverne Hooper and Wanda Houston; and brothers, Steve Houston and Clinton Houston. The family will receive friends from 10:30 am - 12:00 pm Wednesday in the chapel of Trinity Baptist Church in Asheville, 216 Shelburne Rd. The funeral service will follow immediately in the chapel. The Rev. Davis Plemmons will officiate with graveside services at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday at Woodlawn Cemetery, Franklin. The family expresses their sincere appreciation to the staffs of Arbor Terrace, Pisgah Manor, and CarePartners Hospice for the devoted and loving care they provided to our mother. Memorials may be made to CarePartners Hospice, PO Box 25338, Asheville, NC 28813, or to Meals on Wheels at Hominy Baptist Church, 135 Candler School Road, Candler, NC 28715.

  5. I am so sorry for your loss. Necie was a fine lady. We were 1st cousins. I am Western Moss daughter. Aunt Rachel was my dad’s sister. I had not seen Necie in about 5 years and did not know she was sick.

  6. I am so sorry for your loss. I will miss her beautiful smile and loving ways most of all. I can just see her smiling and singing the Lords praises and being so happy and that makes me happy for her. I wish I could be there with you all.

    We are so sorry to hear about your loss. Neice was in our Burger King Baptist group and we have spent many hours with her and David. She is going to be missed from our group. I know she is better off because she is in the arms of an almighty God. Our prayers are with the family at this time.

  13. I am so very sorry for the loss of your mother. Even though we know they are with our Lord and Savior Jesus it still hurts not having them with us.   15. Was so sorry to hear of the loss of your precious mom, we didn’t know her, but thru FB post saw so many precious pics, post and come to love her, cause we love you so much my friend! You were a Loving Caring Caregiver and I know in her heart she appreciated and loved you for all you did for her! You have the joy of knowing she is healed in her Heavenly Home with Family/Friends and you will see her again!
